It’s a runoff!

Watched Stone’s numbers take an early lead which looked bad, but the size of his lead continued to fall through out the evening, 55%, 54%, 53%. . . took a nap, got up just now and saw this on the Sun Times site.

More electronic voting mayhem in Chicago

Great post from Gapers Block Detour on a Chicago election judge’s observations of the user experience for the Sequoia e-voting system.
Check in later tonight. I may be looped in virtually through the wireless connection at the victory party in, of all places, Skokie. Oh whatever. If that’s all they have to pin on Naisy, I [...]

Pre-election evening edition

I’m having a perfectly good time running usability testing here in Kansas City, MO, where no less than 12 people are running for mayor. Shame on you Chicago. You don’t deserve democracy. The bread’s here, the circus is coming.
It also spares me the endless robocalls from Del Valle, Hizzoner Da Mair and all [...]

BitTorrent has gone legit, and other news

No thanks to a snow and ice storm that delayed my 8:40PM flight out of Midway till 10PM, sat in the gate for an hour, and de-icing took another one, so we didn’t get into KCMO till 1, and not in my hotel until 2. There was a lady sitting a row back who literally [...]

Starting training again

I feel undisciplined lately and I’m unhappy with the picture I have for my profile pic at work. And Spring is almost here. It’s time to whip the mind and body into shape! Therefore, this is going to be my first martial arts entry on this blog ever. At some point soon, I realize, I’m [...]

Yes, vote for Naisy, but, back to the 25th Ward now

Friday. Love Friday nights.
So I’m watching Chicago Tonight, and there’s Laura Washington, one of my favorite writers for the Sun-Times, and behind her there’s this picture of the historic landmark On Leong Tong building/Pui Tak Center, the same building that WTTW (”Wilmette Talking To Winnetka”) flashes across the TV when they show the program [...]

Okay, this is not the flowers blog, or the Naisy Dolar blog, but

suddenly most of my traffic is coming from that FTD.com & 1800Flowers UX review for Val that I posted on Digg. Yes, I Dugg my own story. Thanks to Suketu for that idea, because now my bandwidth is through the roof.
The story got picked up by haters of FTD.com, who quickly pulled the link [...]

Oh? Seems I struck a nerve!

After the afternoon festivities, I got an email from someone identifying themselves as “Interested Evanstonian,” whose email appears to be a gmail address for Jonas Heineman, field director for the 50th Ward for the Chicago Fed, a transplant from San Francisco, seemingly nice, left-leaning white liberal, replete with guitar, Kerry campaigns and the rest. Of [...]

Happy New Year everyone!

Today is the first day of the new year, 4704, the Spring Festival in the Chinese lunar calendar. It’s a Pig year, so everyone born under this sign? This is your year. Big parade in C-town today, eating, lots of eating. . . there should also be a “flower market,” lots of shopping going on, [...]

Trib endorses Naisy, Chief gets the boot, end of days must be nigh

Taking a break from the usual IxD/UX/IA stuff to do a life blog.
I’m not a big fan of the Trib, even though it’s the more polished of the papers: it’s patrician, moneyed, conservative; not been very sympathetic to our community here, particularly during the recent contracting scandals that saw even our own aloof alderman, Danny [...]
