Oh? Seems I struck a nerve!

After the afternoon festivities, I got an email from someone identifying themselves as “Interested Evanstonian,” whose email appears to be a gmail address for Jonas Heineman, field director for the 50th Ward for the Chicago Fed, a transplant from San Francisco, seemingly nice, left-leaning white liberal, replete with guitar, Kerry campaigns and the rest. Of course the person who sent the email might NOT really be him, they could be some shill for Stone or that other guy — what’s his name? Aflac?

It matters little: all you guys backed the wrong people.

Jonas — if you did write this email — why didn’t the Chicago Fed throw their weight behind Naisy, who has been endorsed by the Chicago Tribune, FOP, IVI-IPO, Chicago NOW, the Chicago Free Press, and is clearly the more experienced candidate, who knows the city, has worked in city politics, and instead chose this . . . random guy?!

Is it because she’s a woman of color and the union can’t stand for that? Why didn’t you guys — oh, I don’t know — just ask her about her positions on labor instead of throwing down an ultimatum like y’all did?

On top of that, you come from San Francisco, where 20% of the population is Asian American — just about the same as the 50th ward! — where there is a strong people of color organizing component to the most successful campaigns, and yet you still have an embarrassing sense of the history and racial dynamics at work within the ward.

If you knew the background of all this stuff, you should have thrown your weight behind our candidate, Naisy Dolar. Oh well. Your union’s out of step. You gotta Change To Win, buddy. Call me! I got friends at SEIU, UNITE, HERE back in Cali. I think you’ll be happier there. You know. Among real progressives.

Alderman Stone, since you’re such a big supporter of our community, you’ll have no problem now relinquishing your seat to as worthy a candidate as Naisy, and without all the nasty, nasty allegations that will come with appointing your daughter to your seat. You might think that after the Todd Squad came to power, of course, that we might be getting used to this sort of thing, but, we thank you for your cooperation in advance.

As for Aflac, I LOVE those commercials, man! Keep up the good work! AAAAFLAAAAC!
