Gene Moy (梅忠毅) says, "Git 'er done!" More about Gene »
Had a heck of a time trying to upgrade to WP2.51 this morning. Oh sure, there are the usual backups and deactivations to pull off, had to double back to the backup once, but then didn’t realize Camino gets in the way of the Wordpress Upgrade path. Once I switched to the more compliant Firefox all went better. The plugins are giving me a little grief though due to the amount of memory they seem to need in this release. . . .
Edit 2: And now we’ve lost the UTF-8 encoded Chinese text on the page. Why? Oh. There’s a line in the config file that causes a problem with certain database encoding schemes. Commenting out the line as this post says fixes the problem for me.
Edit: Yep. When you upgrade to Wordpress 2.51, and you try to reactivate your plugins, and run into the Internal Server Error 500? Ask your hosting service to increase the memory allocated in the php.ini file from 8MB to 16MB. Odd error, but whatever.
There are a few more notes too. I’m going to finally take on the look and feel of the site, both this one, and the work one, neither of which I feel properly reflects the voice of the blog, and my own philosophy about look and feel. I may this time be using a kind of image replacement technique as the look and feel changes, and release the version up now as a theme to the larger Wordpress community. I need to disambiguate the Flickr photostream from the Work blog and also sort out my Delicious notes that show up there. Lots to do: small chunks at a time.
