There are many aspects to learning forms.
When you learn a form, it is like memorizing the lines of a poem or notes of a song.
You learn it maybe several words or notes, maybe one sentence or a phrase at a time.
When you have memorized the words and notes, now you have to put them all together and perform the piece.
Just because you have memorized all the words or notes does not mean that you understand the poem or song.
There are people who can recite the poem or play the song verbatim, but without feeling or expression.
There are those who emphasize the wrong words, or stress the wrong notes, or play the song back at an inappropriate tempo, volume, or pitch.
Then, when you are able to understand how a piece should or could be played or recited, you are beginning to understand what the piece really is and can tell you.
These are only some of the many aspects to learning forms.
By the way, the form above is the fundamental form from our system. Each one of the rings on Mak Sifu’s arms is about a pound, so, think about how difficult it is to actually be quick and strong with that much weight on your arms.
