Gene Moy (梅忠毅) says, "Git 'er done!" More about Gene »
NPR offers us the sad, emerging truth that white LGBTs ran a poor campaign that did not reach out to LGBTs of color, basically. Is it surprising that white LGBTs, liberal and conservative and everything in between, living in the state of California, would be insensitive to the issues of people of color? Why should it be? My friend Eric, who wrote one of the finest narrative histories of gay Asian Los Angeles, says that one of the early demands that Asian LGBT people had in dealing with the political establishment was to not be marginalized into a mere “Asian” subcommittee, but to have a representative on every subcommittee. Perhaps it’s time to learn something like that lesson again.
