Travel Tip: Travelpro Crew6 22″ Rollaboard

This last trip to Ann Arbor, my Protege 21″ carryon rolling suitcase that carried me for 18 months at Viant and the last 10 months at Brulant finally failed.

The cause: handle was stuck in the up position and it wouldn’t go down. I replaced it temporarily with a Eddie Bauer case from the local Target, but was set on getting something professional grade since I’m on the road usually 60%, up to 80% some weeks. Headed out to Irv’s Luggage Warehouse in Mt Prospect. I wanted to believe in the lifetime promise of Briggs & Riley because the style is close to what I had before, but the handle seemed thin and prone to being stuck, so, instead, I settled on a black Travelpro Crew6 22″ Rollaboard with a thick sturdy handle.

It’s the brand carried by flight crews and that’s a good enough endorsement for me. It is a little bigger than what I had before, which I’m kinda unhappy with, but, it should be more durable. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll get the Briggs & Riley, which is pricier, but, again, considering how much work I’m putting it through. . .

Update: Third week of travel, so far so good. I like that it rolls pretty nicely through the airport. Pretty commodious too, the designer seems to have thought of a lot of things. I like it.
